A. Coursework (60 ECTS)

Students must successfully complete two semesters of eight (8) mandatory taught modules in total.

Modules are divided into core and optional modules, while optional modules are common to both LL.M. specializations

Each semester students are required to attend

  • two (2) core modules, which can be chosen from a list of three (3) core modules, and
  • two (2) optional modules, which can be chosen from the list of optional modules, or one (1) optional module and one (1) core module

Students cannot attend core modules which are offered in the other LL.M. specialization.

B. LL.M. Thesis  (15 ECTS)

Students must successfully conduct legal research, which shall lead to the production of an original written work in the form of a dissertation.

Students choose the subject of their LL.M. thesis during the winter or spring semester, upon consultation with their academic supervisor.

The topic must be related to one or more of the modules taught in the LL.M. programme.

The dissertation must be written by each student individually and must be the result of their original scientific research. To this end, each student shall fill out a declaration form regarding the non-infringement of intellectual property rights.

The dissertation is written in English, and it may be also written in another working language of the programme (i.e. German and French), after having obtained the consent of the academic supervisor.

Students will present their thesis before a 3-member panel of academic staff, who are also responsible for the final grade of the thesis.
