Description
This module will familiarize students with liability issues stemming from key European legislative acts and EU primary law (inter alia liability for breaches of competition law, personal data protection rules and instances of discriminatory treatment). The course focuses on the prerequisites for liability, its scope and limitations (including fault, burden of proof, and recoverable damages) and the interplay between European and national legal frameworks in these areas. Emphasis is placed on the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union.

The aim of the course is :
a) to familiarize students with EU rules governing the obligations and in particular the liability of persons involved in different business transactions and activities and
b) to deepen and refine student knowledge on civil liability concepts, problems and trends.
Academic Requirements
Participants are required to have at least some basic previous knowledge and understanding of European law concepts and principles and of civil liability law.
Teaching method
This course will be conducted through both seminar and workshop formats, emphasizing active student engagement. As part of the coursework, students will be required to deliver a presentation on a liability-related issue of EU law. Presentation topics will be selected collaboratively between students and instructors. Furthermore, students will need to submit a concise paper at the end of the course, focusing on the topic of their presentation. Each presentation will be followed by an interactive discussion involving the presenter and the rest of the class to explore questions that arise with regard to liability issues.

The course is taught by the Assistant Professors Mr Antonios Papadimitropoulos and Mr Vasileios Triantafyllidis.
Assessment and testing
Assessment will be based on the presentation on a chosen topic, the level of participation in class discussions and the quality of the written essay on the chosen topic.
